Shanghai Expo 2010

 
 
Jennifer Cunningham Harry Moore, Sandra Minchin, Danny McCarthy, Sarah Iremonger,and Maximlian Le Cain have been selected to show work in the Exhibition “Postcards from the Celtic Tiger” at the Xuhui Arts Museum, Shanghai. The exhibition, part of Shanghai’s Expo 2010, will open on the 21st July and run through to the end of the month.
 
“Postcards from the Celtic Tiger”, curated by Peggy Sue Amison, Artistic
Director, Sirius Arts Centre, and Chris Hurley, Artistic Director, Cork Film
Centre, confronts the radical contrasts resulting from massive societal shifts caused both by the economic boom and the recent downturn. it aims to present a collective vision of contemporary Ireland through visual art.
Using photography, video and sound to challenge stereotypical metaphors
relating to the Irish landscape, or employing collage and digital imagery to
respond to recent changes, the artworks range from the satirical to a
subtle, visual poetry. Also included are pieces utilizing strong
documentary practices and ‘found footage ‘ reflecting current events and trends in Irish society, from the Peace Process to youth culture.

Jennifer Cunningham, Mark Curran, David Farrell, Sean Hillen, Maurice
Galway, Sarah Iremonger, Maximillion Le Cain, Danny McCarthy, Sandra
Minchin, Ciara Moore, Harry Moore, Richard Moss, Jackie Nickerson, Ailghe Ni Bhriain and Eoin O’Conaill.
 

‘Postcards from the Celtic Tiger’ is made possible with support from Culture Ireland, Cork City Council, The Irish Embassy in Shanghai China, the Culture Bureau of the Xuihui district, Sirius Arts Centre, Cork Film Centre and the Arts Council. This exhibition is the next chapter of important cultural twinning activites between Cobh, Cork City and the Xuhui Disctrict in Shanghai, China. The exhibition links in with other outside events connected to Expo 2010 currently taking place in Shanghai.
