Biography

Jennifer Cunningham is a visual artist who works with paint, printmaking and drawing, film and digital media, She grew up in an urban area and this has influenced her work. She graduated with a first class honours degree from GMIT in 2002 and was a guest artist with Artspace Studios until 2006. Her work is figurative with a narrative content. In 2008 she completed a Masters in fine art from N.C.A.D in Dublin. She has recently become a member of the Blackchurch print studio in Dublin.
She has won several awards for her work including the Henry Higgins Traveling Scholarship and the Taylor art award at the R.D.S in 2002.
Past winners of RDS Prizes have included Walter Osborne, William Orpen, Louis le Brocquy and Dorothy Cross
Recently she was awarded the Thomas Damann Travel award, which she used to go to New York where she collected a large amount of research material. She also undertook a residency in Reykjavik Iceland in September of this year.
She was one of 20 emerging artists invited to partake in a Life drawing marathon this year in the R.H.A and was also invited to teach in the National Gallery during the National Drawing day last year. She has taught some of the part time courses in I.A.D.T , Dun Laoirghaire for the last few years and has given artists talks when she had a show in the Mermaid Arts Centre and in N.C.A.D Dublin.
She has been selected for the R.H.A summer shows 2003-2009 and EVA. She has also exhibited both nationally and internationally and her work is collected by the Office of Public Works, the ESB, Siemens, Galway City Council, Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, Radisson S.A.S hotel, Galway, and privately by collectors in Ireland, New York, London, Basle, and Toronto.
